If it's round and plastic and it makes a good noise, Jimmy will play it.
We met Jimmy one night in the Live & Let Live. Over a swift half of mild he whispered his plan for perverting the musical mainstream. The outline - he refused to reveal the details - seemed to be to devote his life to writing about and playing all sorts of brilliant records that might otherwise never be heard together or even at all. When we said it didn't sound like much of a plan, just blind attrition tactics, he delivered his strategic coup de grace: he'll only carry on this mode of attack "until people sit up and take notice.. Then I'll execute Stage Two."
In the last ten years, he's been involved with Cambridge Community Radio, Impulsive Radio, Cambridge University Radio and the national Student Broadcast Network. He's written for mags like Sleaze Nation and Careless Talk Costs Lives and runs the Robots and Electronic Brains zine.
